The Poodle dog breed originated in either Russia or Germany, and was perfected and popularized in France, where it is known as "Caniche" - derived from the French word for "Duck".

Known throughout Europe as a retriever of waterfowl, the Poodle makes an excellent family pet and sporting dog. The Poodle is closely related to the Portuguese Water Dog and the Irish Water Spaniel. Well-behaved and eager-to-please, the Poodle loves to play with children and makes a great watch dog, doing well in the city or the country.

Poodles come in three sizes; Standard Poodles, Miniature Poodles and Toy Poodles. The dense, harsh coat requires regular daily brushing and clipping at least 4 times per year. Standard Poodles need plenty of outdoor exercise and are better suited to a house than an apartment.
