Irish Wolfhound History:

Centuries ago, only kings, noblemen and poets were given the honor of owning ancestors of this majestic breed, the "cu". The national dog of it's native Ireland, the Irish Wolfhound is one the world's tallest breeds, and is legendary in it's abilities as a fearless and ferocious dog in battle, tenacious large game hunter, and trustworthy guardian of the home.

Irish Wolfhound Appearance:

Height/Weight: The minimum height is 32 in (81 cm) for males and 30 in (76 cm) for females with the ideal being 32-34 in (81-86 cm). Minimum weight for females is 105 lb (47.5 kg) and 120 lb (54 kg) for males.

Coat: The Irish Wolfhound's coat is rough and hard on the body, legs and head. It is especially long and wiry over the eyes and underjaw.

Color: The wiry coat may be grey, brindle, red, black, fawn or pure white.

The majestic size of these wonderful dogs belies their extremely gentle natures - they love children and are very protective of their owner's home and family.
